As we move into July and the transfer window officially opens, it’s likely the rumour mill will gather pace.

Manchester City are never far away from the gossip columns and today we look back at all the players linked to the Club during the month of June.

This is by no means an exhaustive list but it certainly offers a flavour of the varied - and often wild - nature of rumours across the media.

Having been through the archives, here are the players we featured in Media Watch last month.

June kicked off with suggestions City would make a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Serge Aurier. The 24-year-old Ivory Coast star is a right-back, a position that would continually crop up on the gossip pages next to City.

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk was next on the radar. The Southampton star has impressed since his move from Celtic two years ago and has a number of Clubs monitoring his situation and, if you believe the gossip columns, City are believed to be one of them.

Kyle Walker was soon on the agenda, with Juventus’ Alex Sandro, a left-sided defender, also understood to be interesting City’s scouting department.

Another Southampton player, Ryan Bertrand, was the next to be mentioned, and Alexis Sanchez quickly followed suit. The Chilean would go on to be linked on an almost daily basis throughout the month.

Some new names soon came into the mix. Left-back Alex Grimaldo was touted, as were Real Madrid’s Isco and Mexican star Hirving Lozano.

Deep-lying midfielder Toni Kroos, of Real Madrid and Germany, was also thought to be a target, before talk of a £100-million move for Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe emerged. Mbappe was superb in games against City last season and looks set for stardom.

Dani Alves, who recently left Juventus, was another to be habitually linked to a move to the Etihad. He may be 34, but he showed last season that he remains one of the finest defenders in the game.

Some of the more outlandish claims then developed. Cristiano Ronaldo, of Real Madrid, and Lionel Messi, of Barcelona – arguably the two greatest players in world football – were mentioned.

Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was said to be a striker target for the Blues, having been linked all of last summer, too.

Benjamin Mendy was a name that cropped up again and again, with a move for the Monaco man understood to be imminent, before the month ended with some new names in the frame, as Ousmane Dembele, Eric Garcia and Naby Keita were all thought to be under consideration.

Incredible.

Stand by for another month of frenzied transfer news and rumours!
