The Manchester City squad are now back in the UK after their two-week pre-season tour of America – and with less than a fortnight to go until the Premier League season gets under way, transfer speculation is set to reach fever pitch.

One name that has been consistently linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer is Alexis Sanchez and there is more speculation today that he could be set for a move.

According to James Robson at the Manchester Evening News, there is an expectation among the City squad that the Arsenal forward will join before the transfer window closes.

“Manchester City players have openly discussed the arrival of Alexis Sanchez as Pep Guardiola tries to push through a £50m deal for the Arsenal striker,” Robson writes.

“There is an anticipation within the squad that the Chilean will head to the Etihad this summer, with some wondering where that leaves the current forwards.

“Guardiola is determined to add more firepower to his attack and has pursued Sanchez and Kylian Mbappe throughout this transfer window.

“Mbappe’s £100m-plus price tag and Real Madrid’s interest in him has always made Sanchez the more attainable target in the eyes of City’s hierarchy - even if they have steadfastly refused to drop out of the race for Monaco’s teenage sensation.

“Arsenal are adamant they will not sell their leading scorer, despite his refusal to sign an extension to his contract.”

However, the Express believe Paris Saint-Germain remain in the hunt for the Arsenal man, with a bid imminent.

They believe the Ligue 1 side will look to wrap up a deal for Barcelona’s Neymar and then turn their attentions to Sanchez.

“Express Sport understands Paris Saint-Germain will launch a £35million move for Alexis Sanchez,” they write.

“However, they will only do so after completing a deal for Barcelona’s Neymar.

“PSG are confident they can still sign the Chile international despite strong interest from Manchester City.”
