Sterling points out the Pep effect at Man City

CLINICAL: Raheem Sterling scores

Manchester City face Arsenal in the late kick-off on Sunday and there are plenty of headlines about both sides in the build-up to the top six clash.

Raheem Sterling scored the vital winning goal in the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season and he’s sat down for a big interview with The Guardian, focusing on the effect Pep Guardiola has had on him.

As reported by Jamie Jackson, Sterling said: “He says: “It is massive – every player wants to feel welcome and he did that from the first moment. It is a massive bonus and all I try to do is my best and hopefully I can keep doing better.”

The young England winger’s strike against Arsenal in December was one of his brightest moments of an excellent season but he insists he can get even better.

“Goals can help lift me to be one of the best two or three in the world, most definitely. You score the goal that wins the football match five, six, seven times a season: you are one of the best in the world. And that’s what I need to do. I need to keep being consistent.”

Elsewhere, one of the biggest causes for attention ahead of Sunday’s match is the teams that both Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger will select.

TalkSPORT believe Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne could return from knocks picked up during the international break to start for City.

Away from the match and looking ahead to the summer, the transfer rumours are back in full swing.

Many international news desks believe City are in the hunt for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich but the Manchester Evening News have reported that Carlo Ancelotti has a different idea.

Charlotte Duncker writes: “The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Etihad as Guardiola is a long-term admirer of the German international previously saying he has 'got absolutely everything' to be a world star.

“The pair worked together briefly when Guardiola was boss at the Bundesliga side and it looked like they could be reunited after Kimmich expressed his unhappiness at his lack of starting opportunities.

“However, Carlo Ancelotti has different ideas and stated that Kimmich is very much part of his plans at Bayern.

“He said: "There is no way Joshua Kimmich will leave in the summer.”

Finally, it’s been a memorable week for Manchester City Women. Nick Cushing’s side reached the Champions League semi-finals with victory over Fortuna Hjorring on Thursday and BBC have asked whether they can go all the way in Europe to cap an historic season.

We end Saturday’s media round-up there, but stay tuned to mancity.com throughout the day as we bring you the latest news ahead of Arsenal v Manchester City.
