Star: City set Laporte deadline?

TRANSFER TALK: Laporte has met with Pep?

TRANSFER TALK: Laporte has met with Pep?

It’s no surprise to see Dimitri Payet and France dominate the sporting headlines this morning after Euro 2016 got under way in fine style in Paris last night.

However, if you peer inside the back pages of the newspapers you’re waking up to, you will find a few interesting gambits of City-related transfer speculation.

We kick off with the latest on the future Aymeric Laporte, the Athletic Bilbao defender who is reportedly one of City’s main targets this summer.

According to a Daily Star “exclusive”, Laporte will be given a deadline to decide his future.

The story reads: “Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the 22-year-old and City have offered to triple his wages to seal a deal.

“But they are growing frustrated that Laporte has yet to make a decision and want the transfer finalised quickly so they can move on to other targets.

“City are also keen on Everton defender John Stones but are aware any move for him cannot be made until England’s Euro 2016 campaign is over.”

In other news, Borussia Dortmund have reportedly said that even a bid of 70 million Euros won’t be enough to prize Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang away from the Westfalenstadion.

City had been heavily linked with a move for the second top scorer in the Bundesliga earlier in the week but according to German publication Bild, he’s not for sale.

If your German’s any good, you can read more about that one here.

Elsewhere, there are more reports linking Yaya Toure with a move to Roberto Mancini’s Inter and quotes attributed to the Ivorian’s agent.

Dimitri Seluk told Corriere dello Sport: “Right now I’m working on a deal for another of my clients, but I hope there will be news about Yaya in the next two weeks.

“Will I talk to City? Of course, I want to meet with them to try and figure out what their intentions are.

“Could he leave for free? It’s premature to talk about that. First I have to see the City hierarchy.”

Finally, we have to touch on France’s dramatic last gasp win over Romania in the opening game of Euro 2016 last night.

City’s Bacary Sagna was excellent at right-back throughout and he spoke to Ominsport following the victory.

"It was a great performance from Dimitri," Sagna said. "I think he made the difference today, clearly.

"He was involved in both goals and he managed to play really well - he managed to play the way he does with West Ham.

"I'm not surprised to see him perform the way he did.

"I think he brings confidence to the team, he brings fluidity and some quality technically.

"He is a naturally gifted player so I am not surprised to see him perform the way he did."

It’s not the only report of the Blues looking to strengthen the back line this morning, either.
