Could City’s move for Schalke’s sought-after winger Leroy Sane be scuppered by rival interest? That’s what Joe Short in the Express reckons.

“City are frontrunners to sign Sane, 20, this summer in a deal thought to be worth around £42million” according to the report.

“The Germany international caught the eye of new City boss Pep Guardiola while he was in charge at Bayern Munich.

“And it is Bayern who could supposedly scupper their former head coach’s transfer plans with a rival bid.

“That is according to his father, who is quoted in the Manchester Evening News as saying: “Real Madrid and Bayern are also still in mix.”

“Sane has been earmarked as a potential successor to Arjen Robben at Bayern - and Real’s interest comes more of a surprise.

“Manager Zinedine Zidane has already missed out on central midfielder N’Golo Kante - who joined Chelsea from Leicester last week - while Juventus’ Paul Pogba appears close to joining Manchester United.

“Zidane will likely have to sell one of his attacking players to make room for Sane, with Isco, Jese and James Rodriguez linked with moves away from the Bernabeu.

“According to the report, Sane has a £29m release clause in his Schalke contract that will kick in next summer.

“But City are keen to do business now and hope a deal can be struck before the start of the season.”

The Daily Mail are reporting that City have agreed terms to sign Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

“The 24-year-old, who is due to represent his country at the Olympics in Rio, will join from Deportivo Maldonado.

“Rulli has been on loan at Real Sociedad for the past two seasons and the Spanish side hope to agree another loan with City for the forthcoming season.

“Rulli’s former club Estudiantes will also receive a cut of the £4million fee.”

And finally, Jason Denayer is seemingly attracting the interest of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who is looking to bolster his squad’s defensive options according to The Sun.

“Wenger believes he can tempt Denayer from City as Pep Guardiola pursues a £38m move for Juventus and Italy star Leonardo Bonucci.

“Denayer had a Euro 2016 to forget for Belgium as he was at fault for Wales ace Hal Robson-Kanu’s Cruyff-turn wondergoal in the quarter-finals.

“The 21-year-old is thought to be keen on a switch away from the Etihad in search of first-team football.

“A City source said: “Denayer signed a new contract last summer. He is rated at about £15m at the club and is on around £25,000-a-week.

“Arsenal have been interested before just over a year ago but only bid £5m. There was no follow-up offer at the time, but Wenger is a fan.”

“Denayer came through Manchester City’s academy in 2014 but has not played a first-team game for the club.

“The former Anderlecht trainee spent the last campaign on loan at Galatasaray where he won the Turkish Cup.”
