Bradley Wright-Phillips has today completed his transfer to Championship side Southampton for an undisclosed fee with a substantial sell-on clause.

“Like his brother, he was a popular member of the squad and an extremely likeable lad. As with Shaun, he will always be welcome back at this club.”

Commenting on the transfer, manager Stuart Pearce said: “Commercially, this is a good deal for the club but also for Bradley at this stage in his career.

Wright-Phillips’ departure gives young strikers Kelvin Etuhu, Daniel Sturridge and Ishmael Miller the opportunity to press their claims for first team action.

Over the same two-season period Wright-Phillips made 40 senior appearances, starting three games, but scoring just two goals.

Despite the 21-year-old’s prolific form for the reserves, which has seen the popular forward net 32 times in 46 games over two seasons, Bradley struggled with the step up to first team level.
