Jesus: I'm at the ideal club

Jesus: I'm at the ideal club
Gabriel Jesus remains convinced he is at the best club possible to develop his game.

The Brazilian is in fine form, scoring 11 times in his last 13 games in all competitions, including a double at the weekend as we beat Fulham to progress in the FA Cup.

And at just 22, there’s plenty more to come from Brazil’s No. 9, whose all-round game continues to improve.

However, with Sergio Aguero in direct competition for a starting berth in City's attack, there have been times Jesus has found himself on the bench, a situation he admits can frustrate him.

But he still feels he made the right decision when he joined the Club three years ago from Palmeiras.

"I feel this is the best place for me to develop, if not I wouldn't have come," he says. "Of course I trust in the club when I took the decision to come here.

"I am here. Sometimes I am happy, sometimes I am not but that’s normal because I want to play.

"Sometimes I can understand why I don’t but I try to do my best every day. I will do my best every day because I want to stay here and I want to help my teammates."

Jesus says he will be approaching our Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester United like it’s a one-off tie.

City go into Wednesday’s match with a 3-1 lead from the first leg, a result that makes us strong favourites to progress to the showpiece final at Wembley in March.

The game at Old Trafford saw City completely dominate, particularly in the first half where we assumed total control of the ball and went in to the break 3-0 ahead.

But with United’s 2-1 Premier League win at the Etihad Stadium in December still fresh in the mind, no one will be taking this week’s game lightly - and Jesus has demanded fresh focus from his teammates.

“The first game was very good for us,” Jesus said. “But this is a new game.

“We have to forget that. The game on Wednesday will be a tough game.

“I hope we can play well again and qualify.”

Meanwhile, Jesus says he was delighted with his performance in the 4-0 win over Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday.

He scored two second-half headers to add gloss to the scoreline and ease City into the fifth round of the competition.

And afterwards he said nothing makes him happier than scoring goals.

“I am happy!” he said. “We won the game, qualified for the next round and when I score, of course, I am even happier!

“We played well.”
