Fernandinho available for Spurs clash says Pep

Pep Guardiola revealed Fernandinho is available for the visit of Tottenham.

The Brazilian didn’t take part in last weekend’s opening day win over West Ham but could feature against Spurs.

Benjamin Mendy won’t feature on Saturday and Leroy Sane will be out until the New Year.

The City boss also praised Raheem Sterling’s continued development after his blistering start last weekend.

Man City v Tottenham: Are you ready?

“Raheem is one of most dangerous players in the Premier League,” said Pep.

“If you look at the top six teams you find top players. We have many, like Raheem Sterling.

“I haven’t watched the other games, but he is performing so well. Everybody wants more and he wants more. It was just the first game of Premier League season.”

Pep believes City will take on one of Europe’s best teams at the Etihad on Saturday.

The North Londoners reached the Champions League final last season, losing to Liverpool, but Pep says they will again be a strong contender for the title this season.

“We learnt how good they are on many occasions,” said Pep. “They’re the second-best team in Europe.

“Since i came here to England they’ve been a real contender every season. The first season they finished second… they’ve always been there or thereabouts.”

Pep also said that when everyone is fit, members of his squad will have to miss out.

Last season’s Player of the Year Bernardo didn’t take part in the win over West Ham and the Catalan says that others will have to sit out certain games because of the size and quality of the squad.

He said: “That is going to happen every game. We can start to ask if everyone is fit.

“Everybody deserves to play because the quality of the team is really good.

“We can talk about the line-ups, but we have to think about what is best for the team and how to beat our opponent.”

The City boss also says he just wants Benjamin Mendy to focus on getting fit rather than rushing him back into the team.

The luckless France international was endured a torrid time with various setbacks since joining the Blues in 2017 and his manager is focusing on his fitness and getting him prepared to play before he features again in the first team.

“What I want from Benja is to be fit and to be available for training sessions every week,” said Pep.

“He’s had almost two years out and he needs to play. The first target is be fit rather than to play. To train regularly for a month then he has chance to play.”
