City and Shakhtar Donetsk have met on two previous occasions with one win each – the Blues won 2-0 at the Etihad in the first group stage meeting between the teams and a depleted City lost 2-1 in Ukraine.

Shakhtar are unbeaten in seven games at home against English opposition.

The Blues are looking for a fifth win in seven away games in the Champions League.

Sergio Aguero will make his 50th Champions League appearance for City if he plays at any stage this evening. He will also become the leading scorer for an English club in the Champions League if he scores two more goals (Didier Drogba scored 23 for Chelsea).

The Ukrainian champions have scored two or more goals in each of their last seven Champions League home matches.

City's record in Ukraine is won one ;lost two, the victory a 3-1 success at Dynamo Kyiv in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Shakhtar have only lost two domestic games this season – both to Dynamo Kyiv – and are undefeated in 11 games in all comps
