SILVA SHINES: Bernardo is pleased with his improving form

SILVA SHINES: Bernardo is pleased with his improving form

Bernardo Silva believes his form is improving after starring in City's 3-0 win over West Brom, a result that saw Pep Guardiola's side pull 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

But the Portuguese midfielder insists there’s plenty more to come over the remainder of the campaign.

Silva, 23, was sensational for Monaco last season as they won the Ligue 1 title and made it to the Champions League semi-finals, delivering a masterclass performance at the Etihad Stadium en route that went a long way in convincing City to sign him in the summer.

Having found chances limited in the first half of this season, he has played a much more prominent role in recent weeks and impressed - but he says he's nowhere near his best yet.

“I’m feeling well right now,” he said. “I knew when I first arrived that it wouldn’t be easy to get into the team probably as fast I wanted to.

“I’m feeling really well, I’m feeling like I’m helping the team that’s what I wanted to do to help this this club achieve their goals because they put a lot of trust in me when they paid a lot of money, so I’m trying every game to give 100 per cent of myself to get better and help the team.

“I feel like I’m getting better and better. I want to try to get even better because this is not even close to what I can do for this team, so I think I’m improving and I want to improve more and more.”

City 3-0 West Brom: Extended highlights

Silva has been used in multiple attacking positions this season, appearing on both the left and right of City's front three, as well as a False 9 in the recent win over Cardiff in the FA Cup fourth round.

He has quick feet, retains possession superbly and has the ability to play a killer ball when the opportunity arises.

He says he is most comfortable on the right, which is where he played for Monaco, or as a No. 10, but feels playing different positions helps to improve his all-round game.

“I’ve never played much on the left but this season I’ve played a few times on the left, on the right, in the middle - as a number nine in the last game," he said.

"It’s not my normal position but I feel comfortable to play in the middle as well.

"I just try to do my best to help the team. It’s good to try new positions to develop and to learn - when you play in different places on the pitch you learn a lot of different things so it’s good to try new things.

"Most of my formation [as a player] I did as a No. 10 but then when I arrived on the second team at Benfica I played a few times on the right side.

"When I went to Monaco, in my first season and my third, last season I played on the right. With the national team mostly I play on the right side.

"So now I’m used to it. I know I’m not a fast player like [Leroy] Sane or [Raheem] Sterling, I know I cannot do some of the things that they can.

"But I try to do other things and of course I try to improve myself."
