Loan watch: Davenport continues to shine at Burton

Loan rangers...

Loan rangers...

A number of our loan stars have been in action again over the past week and we look at how they fared in their recent fixtures...

First up, Jacob Davenport.

Since joining Burton Albion in a half-season loan deal back in January, the defensive midfielder has continued to impress during his five appearances.

Over the past week Davenport has featured in both Championship games for the Staffordshire side, and most notably played a key part in Albion’s 2-1 victory over Barnsley.

The teenager provided an assist to Jamie Allen to take his loan side ahead in the first minute of the clash and went on to seal the winner with a free-kick just moments before the half time whistle.

Despite their midweek triumph, Burton was unfortunately on the losing side during the 1-0 clash against Millwall just days later.

Elsewhere in the Championship there was a mixed bag of results as two of our loanees featured.

Angus Gunn made his 34th Championship start of the season for Norwich City and helped the Canaries to keep a clean sheet against Bolton Wanderers at Carrow Road.

The clash remained goalless as the final whistle was blown which saw Gunn and his team mates secure a vital point.

Norwich’s East Anglian rivals – Ipswich Town – were also in action when they travelled to Preston North End at the weekend.

City loanee, Bersant Celina, remained on the sidelines for the duration of Ipswich’s 1-0 loss as an unused substitution.

We move on to the League below now as our loan duo Ashley Smith-Brown and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts were both named in Oxford United’s starting line-up to face Northampton over the weekend.

Smith-Brown played for the full duration of the 0-0 clash while Buckley-Ricketts came off to make way for Malachi Napa in the 82nd minute of the game.

Doncaster Rovers took on Rotherham United in another League 1 clash and Rodney Kongolo remained on the bench and saw his loan side drop three points as Doncaster lost 2-1 at the New York Stadium.

Over to Holland now where six of our on-loan players were in action for NAC Breda during the Dutch club’s 1-1 draw away against FC Groningan.

Unfortunately it was skipper and City loan star, Pablo Mari who scored the own goal to see Groningan seal a point from their tie in the 66th minute. Angelino Tasende and Manu Garcia played the full duration of the Eredivisie clash while fellow City stars Thomas Agyepong and Thierry Ambrose both started.

Agyepong was replaced by Umar Sadig in the 69th minute of the game, while Ambrose came off to make way for fellow Manchester City loanee Paolo Fernandes in the 73rd minute.

NAC Breda currently sit in 15th position after their recent draw on 21 points.

In Spain the results weren’t as positive as all of our loan stars were on the losing side this weekend.

Girona faced league leaders Barcelona in their most recent clash and were defeated with a five-goal margin between the sides. Pablo Maffeo featured for the duration of Girona’s 6-1 loss and his fellow on-loan team mates Douglas Luiz and Aleix Garcia came on as substitutions in the second half at Nou Camp.

Girona will face Celta Vigo in their next La Liga clash with the hope of increasing their current 34 point-tally.

In La Liga 2, Yaw Yeboah suffered a defeat with Real Oviedo as team mate Carlos Hernandez scored an own goal to make it 2-1 to opponents Real Zaragoza.

Yeboah came on in the 78th minute for Juan Forlin to make his 15th appearance in the competition during the current campaign.

In Brazil, our loan star Marlos Moreno also suffered a defeat as he was named in Flamengo’s starting XI which lost 4-0 to fellow Rio De Janiero side Fluminense in their recent Carioca Serie A meeting.

The City starlet came off just a minute into the second half and was replaced by Flamengo team mate Geuvanio.

Finally, we take a look at the injuries among our loanees. Eliaqium Mangala remains out for loan side Everton after picking up a knee injury which he picked up at the beginning of February.

Patrick Roberts could be close to making his comeback for Celtic in early March after battling with a thigh issue over recent months.

Meanwhile, Jason Denayer looks to remain on the Galatasary sidelines for at least another month as he continues to suffer with his thigh muscle rupture.

That's all for now but we will be back next week with all the latest news on how our loan stars fared in their fixtures around the globe!
