Guardiola gives injury update on Silva and Kompany

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update on David Silva and Vincent Kompany.

At his weekly press conference ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Crystal Palace, Guardiola revealed that Silva was making progress in his recovery from the hamstring injury which has side-lined him since our clash at Chelsea a fortnight ago.

And he also revealed that Kompany was close to a return to full fitness.

Asked about Spanish midfielder Silva, Guardiola said: “He has started to train. He has taken first steps but is not ready for tomorrow.”

Quizzed on Kompany, who has missed the last four matchday squads, the City manager added: “He is much better but not ready for tomorrow.”

Looking ahead to the visit of Palace, Guardiola also expressed his admiration for the quality of Roy Hodgson’s side.

Twelve months ago, the Eagles restricted City to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park, ending the Blues’ remarkable run of 18 consecutive Premier League wins.

Asked about what makes Palace so difficult to break down, Guardiola added: “It’s simple, the quality of players they have.

“All the players have quality and (they have) an incredible experienced manager.

“It’s so good and complicated to attack them. The reason why was that.

“When you win 18 games in a run you have to lose, that’s normal. We played decent and they missed a penalty.

“They know exactly what they have to do so maybe people expect better results but they create chances. It’s complicated.”
