DONE DEAL: Jason Denayer has joined Lyon on a permanent deal

Jason Denayer has joined Lyon on a permanent deal.

The Belgian centre-back signed for City in July 2013 and progressed through the ranks at Academy level, but never made a senior appearance for the Blues.

The defender spent last season with Galatasaray – his second loan spell at the Super Lig outfit – and clocked up 22 appearances, scoring once.

He also completed season-long spells at Celtic and Sunderland, which sandwiched his first loan move to the Turkish side.

Whilst in Glasgow, where he scored on his professional debut, he chalked up 44 appearances across all competitions. Having helped the Hoops to Scottish Premiership and League Cup successes in 2014/15, he was named the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year and Celtic’s Young Player of the Year.

His move to Sunderland proved less fruitful, as he missed much of the campaign through injury and could not prevent the Black Cats’ relegation – but on his return to Turkey, he tasted further success, winning the Super Lig and Turkiye Kupasi. He claimed an assist in the Turkish Cup final.

In total, he has clocked up 123 appearances at senior Club level.

On the international stage, he broke into Belgium’s senior squad in 2015, after representing the Under-19s and U21s, and has made eight appearances for the Red Devils.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Jason the very best of luck in his career.
