City’s 4-1 win away against West Ham means that the Blues need just three more points to set a new Premier League points record which could occur against Huddersfield, after which Vincent Kompany will raise the trophy aloft.
Guardiola saw his side romp past the Hammers to record the fastest century of top-flight goals in a single season since 1931-32.
The goal-spree also saw the Blues equal Chelsea’s record of 30 league wins in a season, as well as matching the record of 15 away league wins in a single campaign.
“I’m so happy that we scored more goals and now we need one more game to win the most points ever,” the Boss said.
“To do it the day that we are going to receive the Premier League trophy at home with our people, that’s why we wanted to win today, to have the chance to make 96 points at home.”
Leroy Sané fired City into an early lead before an unfortunate own goal from City legend Pablo Zabaleta made it two.
Aaron Cresswell pulled one back for the Hammers on the stroke of half-time, but City’s quality told in the second half with Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho both converting to ensure the Blues’ third straight win.
“Before the game we expect the best of the team. But it can be complicated. We took it seriously. Bar the last ten mins of first half we were really good,” Guardiola said.
“We’re a young team. It is the first time for twenty of our players to win the Premier League. There are just five players who have won it before.
“We are a new team here. Normally successful teams have ten or 11 players who have won a lot in the past or who have experience of everything. For us as staff as well, it’s the first time that lots of us have won the Premier League.”
The Blues have netted 12 goals in three games and show no sign of letting up during our Premier League procession.
And Pep says that targets are still being set.
“We are playing being champions and that has something special in terms of confidence.
“But at the same time, you have to put some targets down in front of us so to play for something, and that’s good.”
City’s table-toppers will lift the trophy on Sunday afternoon after the Huddersfield game and Guardiola is relishing the prospect.
Asked how he and his squad will prepare, the manager said: “We are going to the hairdressers!”
“We’re really looking forward to it and it’s a day to enjoy with the fans, when all the city fans come to be with us.
“We want to play a good game against Huddersfield and try to make the three points and especially receive the trophy with our fans, our people. It’s well deserved, there’s no question about that.”
