Garcia expecting tough Arsenal and Chelsea tests

PLAYMAKER: Aleix Garcia put in another good performance in midfield.

Aleix Garcia believes the international break arrived at a good time for the Manchester City squad.

Pep Guardiola’s side took on Monaco and Liverpool in the space of four days prior to the current hiatus – two games played at a frenetic pace that tested the Blues players both physically and mentally.

And Garcia, 19, feels the two-week rest from Club football gives the players time to recuperate and refocus ahead of quick-fire trips to Arsenal and Chelsea.

“We face the rest of the season with great enthusiasm and eagerness,” he said. “The international break is going be good for us.

“Some players can rest and others can just take their minds off to come back as strong as possible to keep fighting for our goals until the end of the season.

“The break will be good for us after Monaco and the result against Liverpool. We face lots of games – lots of very important games in a few days that will define our season.

“I expect games like the one against Liverpool - tough games.”

As well as key games in the race for a top-four spot in the league, City also have an FA Cup semi-final showdown with Arsenal at Wembley to look forward to next month, with the Blues looking to recapture the famous trophy they last won in 2011.

With City out of the Champions League and trailing Chelsea by 12 points in the Premier League title race, Garcia says the FA Cup has taken on increased importance - and he believes there’s enough quality in the squad to go on and win the competition.

“From the beginning of the season, we have all the trophies in our minds,” he said. “Winning the Premier League is difficult and we are out of the Champions League, so the FA Cup is the probably the best chance we have this season.

“The team is ready to win it and this is what we want. We will fight to win it.”

Garcia has made seven appearances for City this season, impressing every time he's been given an opportunity with his vision and ability to pick a pass from a position just in front of the back four.

He says he’s pleased with the way his career is progressing and believes he can be trusted to produce whenever called upon.

“I’m happy for the chances I had this first season in the first team,” he said.

“I think it will help me for the future – in my career. I am ready for any time Pep needs me.”
