The Manchester City youngster played the full 90 minutes in the 5-1 win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, his seventh appearance of the season.
He played at the base of City’s midfield and impressed with his positioning and range of passing – but he believes only by working hard in each training session and impressing on the pitch can he expect to be handed more starts.
“I’m very happy because of the opportunities the manager is giving me,” he said.
“I work hard every day to try to get them, and when they arrive I try to make the most of them."
Garcia, 19, has long been regarded as one of City’s top academy prospects, consistently performing well for the EDS and pushing for first-team chances.
He was part of the squad that travelled to Abu Dhabi recently – and experience he said helped establish “togetherness” among the players - and he will now be looking to build on his display against Huddersfield and force his way into Guardiola's plans on a more regular basis.
He says he was pleased with City’s performance in coming from behind to beat David Wagner’s side and is now looking forward to this weekend’s trip to Sunderland.
“When they scored, we knew we had to react or they would beat us,” he said. “We did and we won the game.
“They got us by surprise in the start of the game, but the team took a step forward and we proved we were a better team by winning 5-1.
“The team did a great effort today. Now we have to rest, we have another big game on Sunday.”
