City v Arsenal: Opposition View

Arsenal v Manchester City

Arsenal v Manchester City

Ahead of Sunday's game, we quizzed a fan of the Gunners on their thoughts and predictions...

We spoke to Arsenal supporter Richard Bannister. You can follow Richard on Twitter at @richbannister.

How would you rate Arsenal's season overall?

A bit of anti-climax really. As usual, the press say we have no chance of the title, then we show we are a better team than expected and have our spring time collapse.

I think we would be more content if we were in the top four with City or Chelsea topping the table. The fact it is that other team from North London and Leicester makes it harder for the fans to take as on paper we are better than both of them.

What are your hopes for next season?

This depends on the summer. I think we are a couple of players away from having a great squad but City, Chelsea and United will all strengthen. I would like to think we could get a title bid together next year.

What areas will the Club be looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window?

We need a centre half. We have Koscielny who is top drawer, but I'd like to see us add another at his level.

I also think it's safe to say we need a striker. Welbeck is our best option at the moment but a world class striker would make us a total handful, with the creativity in our midfield.

Who has been your player of the season?

I think either of our full backs could take this title. Monreal has really stepped up this year and Bellerin has shown by getting in the PFA team of the season he is as good as anyone in his position. I would give it to Monreal, but only just.

Who has been your young player of the season?

Bellerin would qualify for this. The other one worth a mention is Iwobi. He has looked a real find and has stepped up from U21s extremely well.

He has a great first touch and looks to go forward whenever possible. Just came into the team a bit late though to stop Bellerin taking this title.

What players should we look out for next season?

We have this young English prospect who you may have heard of called Jack Wilshire. A fully fit season from him would be huge for us.

We have a few other good midfielders that with a good pre season may be involved. I’d look out for Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Gedion Zelalem.

What will be the key battle in Sunday’s game?

Central midfield will be key. It will be congested in there and whoever can use the ball best will control the match.

If you could place any MCFC player in the Arsenal team, who would you choose?

Well we've already seen a few in an Arsenal shirt! Easy one this though: Aguero. With Sanchez and Ozil that would be a phenomenal front line.

If you could place any past Arsenal player (in his prime) in the current team, who would you choose?

Tony Adams. The best centre half we have ever had and a real leader. We are screaming out for someone to boss the team at the moment.

Adams would not have stood some of the performances we have put in this season.

Predicted starting XI:

Bellerin Gabriel Koscielny Monreal

Ramsey Elneny

Welbeck Ozil Sanchez

Score prediction:

City 1-2 Arsenal.
