City v Everton: Blues make four changes

Manuel Pellegrini has made four changes from the side that started against West Ham at the weekend.

Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho, Willy Caballero and Pablo Zabaleta all return for the Capital One Cup semi-final, second leg against Everton.

Starting XI: Caballero, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Otamendi, Clichy, Toure, Fernandinho, Delph, Silva, Sterling, Aguero

Subs: Hart, Sagna, De Bruyne, Iheanacho, Fernando, Navas, Angelino

Pellegrini seems to be opting for a 4-3-1-2 formation with Sterling and Aguero up front and Silva playing just behind the forwards.

Zabaleta and Clichy will be expected to provide width down the flanks with Delph, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure providing a solid-looking midfield trio who will be expected to win the ball and feed Silva and the strikers.

Willy Caballero resumes in goal while Kevin De Bruyne could be the perfect sub to turn the game if proceedings are in the balance.

There have been three meetings between the teams this season

City don’t have a fantastic record in two legged semis and have only once overturned a first leg deficit to reach the final when Middlesbrough were dispatched 4-0 in 1976, after the Blue lost the first leg 1-0.

Everton have only previously led once at this stage – against Aston Villa in 1984 – and they went on to reach the final

City have never lost at home in a cup competition to Everton, winning three and drawing once.

Romelu Lukaku is the Toffees’ top scorer in the Capital One Cup this season with four goals in five appearances to date – Kevin De Bruyne has four goals from four games for City.

City have scored 14 goals in four Capital One Cup matches this season – an average of 3.5 goals per game
