Taking a look back to see what happened on this day in City history...
On this day, back in the Old Division One league, Brighton and Hove Albion were met by a Manchester City side that were on tremendous form. Unfortunately for the visitors, there was nothing they could do stop City on this day. Three different Cityzens were on the score sheet as Trevor Francis, Bobby McDonald and Kevin Reeves all put the ball past the keeper and into the net. However it was just not the Seagulls' day as a 4th was let it in via an own goal. The final score ended 4-0 to Manchester City.
This season’s Premier League new boys have recently felt the wrath of Manchester City in a 5-1 dominating performance by City back in October. However, AFC Bournemouth have been pitted against MCFC before – on only six other occasions in fact. One of those times, was on this day when City defeated the Cherries 2-0 in the Old Division Two. The goals came by way of Paul Stewart and Imre Varadi (pictured). City has never lost against Bournemouth and will be looking to continue the streak on April 2nd when we travel to Dean Court in the second Premier League meeting of the season against the Cherries.
It was a day full of FA Cup glory as Manchester City found themselves away to Barnsley in the fifth round of the tournament. Of course we all remember the last time we played Barnsley in the FA Cup as it was only three years ago when City put five past the Tykes. However, on this occasion, City managed to score two goals that sent them to the quarter finals. It was David White that provided the goods as he netted both for City.
