#cityatwembley Famous Wins: 1934 FA Cup final
With our Capital One Cup final against Liverpool looming large, every day this week we'll be looking back at a famous City win at Wembley...

Let’s kick-off our countdown by journeying back 82 years to our first cup win at the home of English football…

City 2 Portsmouth 1, 28 April 1934

City claimed their second FA Cup trophy, and their first cup win at Wembley, as they bounced back from the 1933 FA Cup final defeat against Everton.

Two late goals from Fred Tilson swung the game City’s way after Portsmouth took the lead midway through the first half.

Septimus Rutherford gave Pompey a one-goal advantage in the 28th minute as he latched onto Jack Weddle’s lobbed pass before firing past the dive of Frank Swift.

City drew level with 16 minutes to play when Tilson applied the finish from close range before grabbing his second of the game in the 88th minute to secure the Blues’ first trophy at Wembley.
