John Stones and Pablo Zabaleta react to City's victory over Stoke

John Stones cited the importance of having strength in depth after his man of the match performance in City’s 4-1 victory over Stoke.

Two goals from Sergio Aguero gave City the lead before Bojan’s penalty gave Stoke a lifeline. City were forced to withstand heavy Stoke pressure before two late goals from substitute Nolito sealed the victory.

Stones is delighted with the impact of the likes of Nolito and Kelechi Iheanacho who came on to give the Blues a timely boost.

He said: “To get the three points today shows the players we’ve got. We’ve got players coming off the bench scoring goals and making a big impact.

“Everyone is working hard for the team and unselfish one from Raheem at the end to secure the win shows that. I'm thoroughly enjoying my time here.”

Stones thanked Pep Guardiola and his teammates for helping him to settle in at the club quickly.

“I've settled in quite quickly because the boys have helped me do that. The games have come thick and fast and that’s what I’ve come here for. I want to be playing and improving as a player as much as possible,” he said.

“I'm trying to perfect my game and he's showing me the route to go down but there’s always things I need to improve.”

Pablo Zabaleta was also delighted with the victory at a notoriously difficult Premier League ground.

He said: “This is always a tough place to come but the performance was fantastic. It was not easy because we played a tough match in midweek against Bucharest. We showed a great team spirit. From the first minute, we were on top of them.

“The first part of the second half was hard after they score the penalty but other than that I think we kept the ball really well and we deserved to win.

“The players that have been here for a long time need to help them because Manchester City is a team that is looking to win trophies every season. It's going to be tough but we have belief.”
