Aguero within touching distance of all-time City hot-shots

Sergio Aguero has his sights fixed firmly on a place in City’s top ten goal-scorers of all time.

The Argentina star has scored 108 goals in 166 games for the Blues and climbing the scoring list rapidly and, if he enjoys a season as prolific as the last campaign, he will shoot into the Club’s top 10.

Kun needs 22 goals to enter the ten best list and if he matches his 2014/15 haul, he would vault up to seventh and be within just one more prolific campaign of etching his name further into the Blues’ history books with Eric Brook currently topping the chart with 178 goals – though there is some dispute as to whether the strike he registered during the 1939/40 clash with Leicester City actually stands or was officially expunged.

The outbreak of World War 2 meant only three games were played that season with no further league football until 1945. Aguero has some way to go to challenge Brook, but could well force his way to within a few goals of sixth-placed Francis Lee’s total of 148

...Aguero #10...

Above Lee and closely packed are Billy Meredith, Joe Hayes (both 152) and Colin Bell on 153. Then only Tommy Johnson (166) and Brook would sit between Kun and top spot.

Sergio already holds six Club records including most Premier League goals (79), most goals in European competition (19), most Champions League goals (19) and the most goals in a Premier League season (26).

He has twice scored six Champions League goals in one season – another record – in 2013/14 and 2014/15 and holds the record for most goals in one Premier League game (4) and a similar stat for the Champions League (3 – shared with Alvaro Negredo).

At international level, Sergio is fifth-best scorer of all-time for Argentina and is now just five behind Diego Maradona – though he’s some way short (27 in total) of the leader Gabriel Batistuta. Esteemed company indeed.
