Aguero would trade personal success for team glory

Sergio Aguero says he would trade the possibility of a coveted Premier League Golden Boot win with a successful title defence instead.

Kun’s winner against Spurs last Sunday took him to 22 league goals for the season – two ahead of his nearest rival Harry Kane.

It was also his 28th in all competitions – just two shy of the 30 he achieved in 2011/12 with his 30th that season coming against today’s opponents QPR. Two more today would see history repeating itself a little…

“I'd rather be competing for the top position of the Premier League,” he said. “I always say goals are worth more when they let us make great achievements as a team. But that's no longer a possibility, so I hope I keep doing things right in these last three games so we can reach the best position possible and so I can be the top goal-scorer this season.

“I'd be hugely proud of achieving that goal so in the games that remain

I will be doing my best to help my team earn the points we need and hopefully also win the Golden Boot because that would be something that my teammates and City's supporters could also celebrate

...Kun Aguero...

Sergio admits every time he faces QPR, it stirs memories of the title triumph almost exactly three years ago. As the Blues snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and QPR survived the drop by the skin of their teeth, the whole of the Etihad Stadium celebrated in unison, both the home and away supporters.

“Even if each match is different from one another, it's inevitable that we'll remember that 2012 game, right?” smiled Sergio.

“It's simply impossible to take that out of your mind because of all it meant to this club, the players and our fans. In any case, things must be put in perspective. That was an incredible, one-of-a-kind day.

“We've got to focus on the present to reach the highest possible position so while the memories are very happy ones, this game is a new canvas.”

With his third Etihad Player of the Month award received this week, would it surprise anyone if the fans’ idol added the seasonal award to his already burgeoning trophy and medals cabinet at home?

Kun ranks as one of the most popular City players of all time and none of the love and affection is lost on the 26-year-old.

“The way the City fans are with me makes me feel enormously proud,” he said. “I'm very thankful our supporters. They show me affection daily, and have great respect, too. I couldn't ask for more.”
