Argentina win made in Manchester

Sergio Aguero scores against Uruguay

Sergio Aguero scores against Uruguay

Sergio Aguero's stunning diving header secured victory for Argentina against Uruguay in the Copa America.

It was a win made in Manchester, with Aguero's club-mate Pablo Zabaleta laying on the goal with a pinpoint cross from the right after 56 minutes.

The 1-0 result puts La Albiceleste level with Paraguay at the top of Group B.

Argentina manager Tata Martino, who was sent to the stands during a tense encounter, said afterwards: "Today we didn't have as many chances as we did against Paraguay, but after Kun's goal we could have finished it off. We had two good chances and we weren't able to take them.

"We live by results. If I get a lucky win, it is difficult to sustain that over time, so we have to maintain a style. I want to stay here for three and a half years."

We played, we fought and we deservedly won the derby. Very happy about the victory. Let's keep it going! C'mon, Argentina!

The goal was Aguero's second of the tournament after his effort in the 2-2 draw against Paraguay and Argentina next face Jamaica on Saturday in their final Group B game.

Martino added: "What I saw basically was 70 minutes similar to the game against Paraguay.

"We had the ball, we tried to create chances, break down Uruguay's scheme, playing between the lines and attacking on the wings. But after that we lost mobility in our passing and therefore we lost the ball.

"It causes us a lot of harm when we don't have control of the match. And if there is one thing to look our for it is the fact that we weren't able to maintain our rhythm for 90 minutes in either of the games."

Fernandinho's Brazil are in action against Colombia this evening.
