Cut and dried: A history of City players' surprising haircuts...

Haircut, sir? The beauty of a new haircut out of season is that there’s time to regrow it if you don’t like it.

Bacary Sagna’s decision to have his head shaved means one of the most recognisable styles in the Premier League is no more with the France defender sporting a new, streamlined look.

Martin Demichelis announced to the world that he’d decided it was the end of the road for one of the most famous ponytails in football.

Here's the evidence on Mrs Demichelis' twitter account...

Martin decided to reveal his new look during a fairly quiet period – correction – it was during the 2014 World Cup.

His haircut when down well, too, with an amazing response on twitter and it didn’t do his form any harm as Argentina went all the way to the final, eventually losing to Germany.

Mario Balotelli had a new design almost every week and his cuts were predictably headline news. Mario was always happy to stop and pose with his latest creation – the one below is from January 2013 - but there have been others…

For many years Carlos Tevez sported shoulder-length locks, occasionally kept in place by a bandana but his decision to have a smart short, back and sides in 2010 well down well with his fans.

And who could forget former boss Roberto Mancini's new cut for the start of the 2012/13 campaign?

Joe Hart went from a 'swoosh' to a side-parting and Gel Clichy started with a shaved look but has since grown his hair to the look below.

Stephen Ireland decided to have a ‘Sagna’ back in 2009, go for a shaven-head look that he still sports today.

Brazilian striker Jo and Felipe Caicedo both opted to braid their hair... –

...as did Elano – though the latter creation raised one or two eyebrows!

The EDS are not shy when it comes to new cuts with Jose Angel Tasende (Angelino) opting for the below.

Who is next? Will the bubble perm make a comeback will we ever see a mullet again? Send in your suggestions for players' styles via twitter and we’ll share the best…
