City travel to Sunderland in Capital One Cup third round

City will play Sunderland in the Capital One Cup third round in a re-run of the 2014 final.

The Blues will travel to the Stadium of Light for a place in the last 16 after the Black Cats saw off the challenge of Exeter City 6-3.

City ended a 38-year wait to win the League Cup in 2014 against the same opposition and this competition represents the quickest route to silverware with the final pencilled in for 28 February next year

The Capital One Cup was also the first success for Manuel Pellegrini in English football and it won’t be lost on the manager that his team then went on to win the title just a few months later.

The third round ties will be played the week commencing 21 September and the date and ticket details will be announced in due course.
