Aguero focused on silverware ahead of personal goals

Sergio Aguero is happy to put personal glory to one side if it means the team is successful this season.

The reigning Etihad Player of the Season bagged 32 goals for City last season, securing the Golden Boot in the process for the 26 Premier League goals he scored, but he’d happily score fewer if it meant more silverware for the team.

Monday’s clash with West Brom might come too soon for the Argentina star who only returned to pre-season training this week following his Copa America exploits, but Kun is looking to kick on again and hopefully lead the team to glory.

“The challenge is to aim higher to keep growing,” he said. ”I’m satisfied if any goals I score, whatever the number, helps City win titles. I’ve always prioritised team achievements over personal ones. It’s no different in this year."

Sergio also believes the majority of pundits who have tipped City to finish outside the top two for the first time in five years are a little wide of the mark.

Though he respects everyone’s opinion, he’s not sure why anyone would think City will be weaker this season.

“I believe it’s quite bold to make such predictions,” he said.

Top teams will always be in the race for the title and over the past four years, we’ve won two Premier League titles and ended as runners-up twice

...Aguero #10...

“That’s only talking about the Premier League, and not the other cups we’ve won along the way. We have set the bar very high and we hope to keep it that way. City must always aim to win as many trophies as possible.”

Aguero is also looking forward to lining up with new signing Raheem Sterling – a player he rates very highly. He said: “He’s a good player and a quick one, too. He can be a great asset when we are on the attack and I’m looking forward to playing alongside him.

“It goes without saying that the sooner he settles into the team the better for everyone.”
