Demichelis: We've won nothing yet

Martin Demichelis has urged caution ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Aston Villa, and warns City have won nothing yet.

A point against Paul Lambert’s men would ensure the Blues top the table going into the last day of the season.

But with two matches still to play, Demichelis is keen to avoid any hint of complacency and insists the team must learn from the surprising scorelines of the last few weeks – including Liverpool’s draw with Crystal Palace on Monday.

The defender told mcfc.co.uk: “There's been many unexpected results in the last fixtures, and that proves that in football, or sport in general, until you win you cannot take anything for granted.

We should not believe the title is finished.

“The Liverpool Palace game is a great lesson. They were winning 3-0 and in 12 minutes Palace drew. It seemed impossible but Liverpool dropped points and it was a big surprise, so it's a great lesson for us to learn.

“We still have games to win.”

City are masters of their own destiny as they look to lift a second trophy in Manuel Pellegrini’s first season at the helm.

And Demichelis, who was voted April’s Etihad Player of the Month for his part in pushing the Blues towards the table’s summit, explains that the situation brings its own pressures and the team must stay focused on the job at hand.

“We are so close now to winning the title but the most important thing at this stage is how we manage the pressure,” the Argentinian declared. “We know that we are almost there but we haven't achieved our goal yet. I hope that we can isolate ourselves from that.

Fans have the right to live the moment with passion but we need to stay focused on our game exclusively.”

However, Martin is hoping he and his teammates can reap the benefits of playing at the Etihad Stadium and being roared on by the City fans.

He said: “We need to take advantage of playing at home. We have a great chance and we are playing here with our home supporters.

"So there's no need to change anything, we just need to go for the victory from the first minute.”
