Sergio Aguero believes City will recover quickly after last Sunday’s surprise defeat at Cardiff.
The Argentina striker acknowledges there will be teething problems in the first few weeks of the new campaign, but is expecting a positive response against Hull City on Saturday.
Aguero says the squad are still adapting to a change of style, but adds the players are enjoying the training and thinks the Blues will score plenty of goals this season.
“It’s bound to take some time to get used to the ideas of any new manager, but I think this time the process will be quicker,” he said.
“He (Pellegrini) values keeping the ball and offensive, attacking play – that suits us down to the ground.
“On the players’ side, we are all here to work hard and try our best for him and I think things will go really well. It’s good news for everybody that he wants us to play an exciting brand of football because with this squad, I believe it guarantees the best results.”
Aguero is also excited at the prospect of an improved Champions League campaign this year.
The Blues will face Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen this time around and the City striker thinks lessons have been learned from failing to progress to the knockout phase for the past two years.
“We have to learn from our past two experiences in the Champions League that saw us eliminated fairly quickly,” he said. “We didn’t enjoy that at all, but the disappointment we felt should motivate us.
We need to keep on growing and the Champions League is the best stage to show what we are capable of
“We are competing against the best clubs in Europe – teams with great players and quality squads. I really hope that Manuel Pellegrini, who has proved he can take teams into the latter stages in Europe, will bring the best out of us this season and take us as far as possible in the competition.
“If we gel the way I think we will, it should be a fantastic season for us.”
