Man City boss Guardiola offers injury update

PALACE: The boss has given his thoughts ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park

PALACE: The boss has given his thoughts ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park

Pep Guardiola has confirmed there are no fresh injury concerns in the Manchester City squad ahead of this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

Twelve City stars have played international matches over the past 12 days, with a number of them involved in games in South America

Guardiola admits some of them have returned tired and says he will assess each player individually before selecting his side for the game at Selhurst Park – but none have suffered injuries while on international duty.

“All the players came back good,” Guardiola said. “The players who played 90 minutes they are tired, especially the South American players. But they are fit, not injured, and that is the most important thing.

“The schedule is so stressful for the players. It’s so demanding. We cannot lose, cannot play bad. We have to handle that.

“Every player is different from the other one. Still I am still learning how my players react from that situation. But they are not injured, they come back good.”

Guardiola says he expects a tough afternoon against a Palace side he believes have the tools to hurt City.

Alan Pardew's team are currently 16th in the table and struggling for form.

But Guardiola, who says he has watched them closely this season, believes they have many strengths.

“[I expect] a tough game,” he said. “I have had time to see many of their games, it will be tough. They have a coach with a lot of experience in England. They are fast, one against one. We know the situation.

“They cross a lot of balls - Benteke in the box is unstoppable.”
