City were incredibly unlucky to lose out to Swansea at home, after Kenji Gorre scored a last minute winner against the Blues.

Although it was a game of few chances, City should have made it onto the scoresheet as Simon Davies' side seemed in full control and kept the visitors quiet for the majority of the meeting.

What happened

City enjoyed most of the possession throughout the first-half, although few chances were created.

The first chance came in the 16th minute when Javairo Dilrosun’s curling corner was headed towards the net by skipper Joel Latibeaudiere, but his effort fired narrowly over Gregor Zabret’s crossbar.

The next came on the half hour mark when Matt Smith, who provided a wealth of speed throughout the first half, fired goalward confidently from the edge of the box, but he was unlucky to miss.

Just before the stroke of half-time, Aro Muric’s heart was sent racing when George Byers charged towards him hunting to take the visitors into the lead before the whistle. Luckily, Ed Francis was on hand to superbly clear the ball away to ensure City entered the break with a clean sheet.

In the second, City continued to dominate with the ball and made the Swans work incredibly hard to keep up, but again the Blues just couldn’t convert in the final third.

Rabbi Matondo and Ian Poveda provided incredible speed down both wings throughout the entirety of the match and both were unlucky not to make it onto the scoresheet.

The two wingers put their agility to the test on the 76th minute as Poveda sashayed around the Swansea defense and offloaded the ball onto oncoming Matondo. The Welshman launched a low flying shot at Zabret, but his effort skimmed the far post by inches.

Just as the game looked over, Gorre nipped through City and fired his strike which Muric was unable to get his hand to.

The 89th minute goal saw Swansea snatch the three points, much to the frustration of Simon Davies' side.

How they lined up

Simon Davies put forward an all-teenage side to face the Swans.

Francis, Joel Latibeaudiere and Eric Garcia made up the back three.

Iker Pozo and Smith took their defensive midfield roles with Dilrosun and Tom Dele-Bashiru alongside, while Matondo and Povedo flanked Lorenzo Gonzalez up front.

What it means

City’s result sees them remain on 17 points and marks the Blues’ seventh loss in the Premier League 2 this season.

The EDS’ next fixture is against Sunderland away at the Eppleton Colliery in the Premier League 2. The game will be played on Friday 16

February, kick-off at 7pm.
