Lopes eager to create more happy memories

City EDS tyro Marcos Lopes is hoping to continue his burgeoning love affair with the Etihad Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Portugal under-19 international became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in January’s FA Cup win over Watford and followed it up with another goal in the Etihad a week later in the FA Youth Cup.

Lopes is likely to start against Everton on Monday lunchtime as City EDS look to get their season off and running with a first Barclays u21 Premier League win.

“I really like to play at the stadium, I think it makes the game that bit more special,” the 17-year old said.

“Last season I scored twice in the same week at the Etihad Stadium – once for the first-team against Watford and then for the under-18s in the FA Youth Cup.

“It's great if there are a lot of supporters in the stadium that would really help us and inspire us to get our first win.”

Patrick Vieira’s men have lost their opening two fixtures in the league but are remaining positive that this encounter with the Toffees will change all that.

Last time out, a young City selection were beaten 6-3 by an experienced Tottenham team which included Sandro, Harry Kane and Tom Carroll.

“Spurs played with a few players from their first-team but this is not a problem for us because if you want to be big players, you can only improve by testing yourselves against the best,” Lopes declared.

“We need to work on our concentration throughout the game and if we can do that, we will be in a better place.

"I think we can start on Monday when we play against Everton. We’re going to play at the stadium which is a motivation for all of the players. I think all of the players want to win the game, I think a lot of things will change.”
