Manchester City's Elite Development Squad were beaten 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in a top of the table Premier League 2 clash.

Jack Clarke scored the hosts' opener after 12 minutes before Nile John doubled the London side's advantage going into half-time.

John would grab his second and Spurs' third twenty minutes from time as Brian Barry-Murphy's side dropped to fourth in the PL2 table.

WHAT HAPPENED

City and Spurs went into this clash level on points following our dramatic late winner against Leeds United.

But it was the hosts who started stronger, with Clarke latching onto an assist from John to hand Spurs the lead.

City were far from out of the game, but a clinical Tottenham side took a two-goal lead just before the break when John turned from provider to scorer.

Into the second half, Barry-Murphy introduced Carlos Borges to the action just before the hour mark as we looked for a way back into the match, but we couldn't capitalise on our possessional dominance in the second 45.

And Spurs would put the game out of sight when John scored his second of the match with twenty minutes to go.

HOW WE LINED UP

There were two changes for the EDS from the comeback victory over Leeds, with Cieran Slicker getting the nod in goal, while Kwaku Oduroh, CJ Egan-Riley, Luke Mbete and Josh Wilson-Esbrand made up the back four.

In midfield, Barry-Murphy selected Romeo Lavia, sitting deep behind Cole Palmer and Shea Charles, whilst Kayky and Oscar Bobb took up their familiar roles on the wings, flanking James McAtee, who was playing as City's number nine.

WHAT IT MEANS

The EDS now fall to fourth in the Premier League 2, three points behind our opponents Tottenham in second and four points off leaders West Ham United.

UP NEXT

City are back in Premier League 2 action in two weeks time, with an evening clash at home to fifth place Brighton on the cards.

Kick-off at the Academy Stadium is 19:00 (UK) on Friday 17 December.
