Manchester City grabbed a first victory of the U18s Premier League North season with a 4-0 against Derby County at the City Football Academy.

Joel Ndala struck early with a back post tap in at the start of the first half.

Justin Oboavwoduo grabbed his first goal with the Under-18s, with a strike at the end of the opening of the second half.

Ndala put away his second of the match, moments before Matty Whittingham added a fourth to secure us a comfortable win.

After last weekend’s disappointment of conceding late up at Newcastle, City had the drive to respond early and started the slickest.

Only two minutes into the contest, some good play down the left-hand side led to a ball being played across the box and it fell to Joel Ndala at the back post who clinically tapped in.

The early strike gave Ben Wilkinson’s young outfit the perfect start, and the blue shirts were flooding the Derby half.

Whittingham was proving to be a thorn in Derby’s defence, receiving the ball a lot in the opening stages.

The number 10 drove into the box, before stepping inside to evade the defender and his shot was saved low by Derby shot stopper, Jack Thompson.

The Rams slowly got themselves into the match, as Derby’s first corner reached the head of Nelson Aideyan, but his effort went over the bar.

As our Young Charges began the second half, they did superably by replicating their fast start in the first, as Oboavwoduo was played through, he sent the keeper the wrong way and placed the ball to double the advantage.

City were in the ascendancy after the second, as Ndala, who was another star player in the match, dribbled into the Rams box, he skipped past numerous challenges before slotting in his brace to put a strong foothold on the match.

Three minutes later, the hosts were causing the visitors more trouble, as Whittingham latched onto a defence splitting pass before avoiding a challenge from the keeper and squeezed the ball into the net from a tight angle.

Controlling the match till the end was an objective which City did with precision late on, as we limited Derby to very little as the game came to a close, as the Young Charges claimed their first league win of the season in style.

True Grant started between the sticks, with a back four of Michael Okeke, Lakyle Samuel, Jadel Katongo and Sebastian Naylor protecting him.

Jacob Wright was accompanied in midfield by Nico O’Reilly and Matty Whittingham who were playing further forward.

Justin Oboavwoduo played as the sole striker, with Joel Ndala and Ashton Muir on the flanks.
