Manchester City’s Under-18s claimed another three points in our penultimate Under-18s Premier League North campaign, after we denied Burnley a late comeback.

Nico O’Reilly gave us the perfect start as he headed us in front on 13 minutes before grabbing his brace just after the second half began.

An action packed second half continued, as Dire Mebude clinically grabbed our third, before Josh Edwards and Joe Westley gave Burnley hope late on.

Rico Lewis was shown a red card deep into second half stoppage time as City walked away with another three points.

After the celebrations at the weekend, attention turned back to league action as we looked to end the campaign in strong style.

And we didn’t have to wait long to break the deadlock, as Luca Barrington had space down the right, before he chipped a pinpoint cross in, which met the head of a towering Nico O’Reilly to put us in control.

Despite all our good build up play, City were unable to compose themselves in the box with numerous chances being skewed wide.

And we were unfortunate to head into half time with a slender one goal advantage.

We continued our dominance into the second half, and just like the first half, we got ourselves an early goal.

Dire Mebude did well with his feet to cut the ball inside and his cross again met O’Reilly who grabbed his brace.

City’s young charges continued to push forward as instructed by Ben Wilkinson and were rewarded further.

Barrington clinched his brace of assists, as he found Mebude in the box with a low cross, who then directed his shot past Charlie Casper in the Burnley goal.

As we entered the last 10 minutes of the match, Burnley caught us napping at the back, as Josh Edwards scored from a miscommunication mistake in our backline.

Minutes later, a through ball from the Clarets’ Joe Bauress, released substitute Joe Westley in on goal to cut the deficit to one goal.

Our skipper, Rico Lewis was handed his second yellow card late into second half stoppage time, as City escaped a late fightback from the hosts.

George Murray-Jones was selected between the sticks for this match, with a backline of Luca Barrington, Shea Charles, Max Alleyne and Matty Whittingham protecting him.

Rico Lewis returned to the line up as a deep lying midfielder, with Nico O’Reilly and Kian Breckin playing further ahead between the lines.

Tai Sodje started as a sole striker, with Liam Smith and Dire Mebude supporting him on the wings.
