Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad Head Coach Ben Wilkinson has left the position to become the first team assistant coach at Derby County.

It ends the Englishman’s long, successful association with the Blues where he enjoyed a number of roles including leading our Under-18s and Under-21s.

Following his departure, the Club and Thomas Kruecken will announce our new Academy coaches and structure in due course.

Wilkinson first joined City in the summer of 2018 as assistant head coach of our EDS before being appointed as lead coach of our Under-16s.

Taking charge of our Under-18s in the summer of 2021, he oversaw the Under-17 Premier League Cup triumph in 2022 before winning Premier League North and the national title.

We won the FA Youth Cup in 2023/24 season with a 4-0 win over Leeds United before Wilkinson moved to the EDS.

“It’s been an incredible privilege to work at this amazing football club for the last eight years,” Wilkinson said.

“It’s difficult to put into words just how much this Club has given me, both professionally and personally.

“I would like to thank Thomas, Txiki, Hugo and Pep for all of their support and the opportunities they have given me. This has been a part of my life that I will cherish.

“One of the greatest privileges has been working with so many talented young players and watching them progress through the Academy into senior football, both in our first team and throughout the football pyramid.

“Watching their growth and playing a small part in their journeys has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together.

“I would like to wish Thomas and everyone at the Academy continued success in the future.”
