Robertson receives first senior Australia call-up

Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson has received his first senior Australia call-up ahead of the upcoming international break.

The youngster has been a mainstay for our Elite Development Squad, grabbing five goals as we chase a third-successive Premier League 2 title.

After spending the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Scottish Premiership side Ross County, Robertson was named on the bench for Pep Guardiola’s men in recent clashes against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

And his performances have now earned the 19-year-old recognition on the international scene, with Robertson getting the nod for the Australian national team for the very first time.

Although he was born in Scotland, the midfielder spent the majority if his early life down under, and also qualifies for selection courtesy of his father, Mark, who also represented the Socceroos at senior level.

His grandfather also played for Australia, meaning the teenager is set to become the third generation in his family to turn out for his adopted nation.

Graham Arnold’s side, who reached the knockout stages of the World Cup in December before losing to eventual winners Argentina, take on Ecuador in a two-game friendly series at the end of the month.

They lock horns with the South Americans on Friday 24 March (09:00 UK kick-off), before facing off again on Tuesday 28 March (09:30).

Congratulations to Alex on receiving his first senior Australia call-up!
