Don's pupils at St Paul's C of E primary school marked his career final whistle by releasing 100 blue and white balloons in the playground as Moonchester gave him a hug from the club.
And Club Ambassador Mike sent a special video message for his Blues-themed party as Don, head at St Paul's for 20 years, called time on a teaching career that has spanned 37 years.
He said: "This is a wonderful send-off. I've been a City fan since my father came back from watching City win the FA Cup at Wembley in 1956.
"I remember going to games with him when I was six. He made me a little blue stool so that I could stand in the Kippax at Maine Road and be able to watch the game."
Don's most memorable matches are the 5-1 1989 derby victory and the farewell game at Maine Road. Now, having retired, he hopes to add his first trip abroad in next season's Europa League.
