In June 2018, 12 boys and their coach from the Wild Boars Thai junior football team became the focus of worldwide attention after becoming trapped deep in a cave system for more than two weeks.
Thailand quickly brought together an international rescue team, with a collection of experts including US Air Force rescue specialists and cave divers from around the world assembling in northern Thailand to assist with ongoing efforts to bring the boys and their coach out safely.
Xylem, Manchester City's official water technology partner, deployed a team on-site, offering expertise and advice that helped lower water levels in the cave, contributing to the successful recovery of the boys and their coach.
Five months later, Xylem and a team from Manchester City returned to the Chiang Rai Province.
Coaches and former City players put on training sessions for the young Boar football players, before helping the community tackle local water accessibility challenges by building a clean drinking water tower with the Xylem team.
Together, Xylem and Manchester City have driven positive, sustainable change in the local community, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of football fans and water stewards
