February is disabilty month

This month’s community theme is ‘disability.'

In February, City in the Community celebrates disability month to promote the ‘One City’ Disability Sport Programme and disability awareness in Manchester.

In addition to the regular ‘One City’ disability sport programme that is delivered in school, after school and during the holiday periods, a variety of events will be delivered to community groups in Manchester throughout the month.

Events coming up include; a primary school football tournament for local specialist support schools at Platt Lane on Tuesday 5 February.

During all holiday periods CITC coaches deliver football sessions at Manchester Sport Developments Inclusive Sport Camps. At February half term the ‘One City’ disability sport programme will team up with Premier League4Sport to deliver a variety of sports to all the participants attending.

Pre-match at Liverpool we will showcase a variety of disability sports including Powerchair Football delivered by Oldham Wheelies and the All Ability Bikes delivered by Simply Cycling.

Tennis is an integral part of the disability programme and in partnership with the LTA a tennis activators course is being delivered for teachers, volunteers and coaches who want to develop their understanding of coaching disabled performers.

Furthermore, on Tuesday 12 February, a tennis tournament and festival is being held at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre for local specialist support schools.

For more information regarding the ‘One City’ Disability Sport project or any other disability sports in Manchester please feel free to contact Daniel Landstrom, Disability Sport Manager.
