Young Leaders recognised at special Awards Ceremony

On day three of the Young Leaders Summit, City hosted a special awards ceremony to celebrate and recognise the achievements of our inspiring young leaders in using football to uplift young people in their communities.

The awards evening took place at the Etihad Stadium with 100 guests, and connected a wider network of young leaders, friends and family from around the world via Webex by Cisco.

For the first time, this included use of Webex’s new real-time translation feature, providing an engaging and inclusive experience for those tuning in.

The event featured a Q&A with special guest Karen Bardsley on leadership and women’s football, a chance for young leaders to have their picture with the Premier League Trophy, and the presentation of six awards, with some surprise virtual guests to congratulate the winners.

Congratulations to our 2022 award winners:

  • Community Spirit Award: Darwin from New York City
  • Team Player Award: Andressa & Iago from São Paulo
  • Outstanding Leadership Award: Avisekh from Kolkata, Leila from Manchester, Mariam from Kilifi and Jaider from Barranquilla
  • Health Hero Award: Karan from Mumbai
  • Xylem Water Hero Award: William from Cape Coast
  • Yecid Bolaño Inspiration Award: Nara from Buenos Aires

Reflecting on the event, Karen Bardsley said: “I have been truly inspired by the stories we heard this evening of young leaders who are creating life-changing impact in their communities using the power of the football.

“The chance to meet the young leaders and to see them connecting with each other was amazing, and I believe the future is very bright for these young people.”
