De Bruyne and Houghton head City nominees at NW Football Awards
Kevin De Bruyne and Steph Houghton lead the way with Manchester City having received a number of nominations in the 2020 North West Football Awards.

Belgian midfield maestro De Bruyne and England Lionesses skipper Houghton have been short-listed for the Player of the Season and Women’s Player of the Season awards respectively.

De Bruyne enjoyed a stellar 2019/20 campaign and ended the season as the recipient of five other prestigious prizes.

He won the Premier League Playmaker prize back in July having equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a single season, a milestone which had stood for 17 years.

In August, our fans voted him as our Etihad Player of the Season before he was then named Premier League Player of the Season.

Last month, he became the first male City player to win the PFA Player of the Year prize, which is voted for by professionals across England’s four top divisions and he was named as UEFA’s Midfielder of the Season, further recognition of his brilliance across the 2019-20 campaign.

Houghton meanwhile again proved an inspirational and talismanic figure for City on and off the pitch over the course of the 2019/20 season.

A leader and inspiration for both club and country, Steph continues to go from strength to strength and she has helped guide the Club into the 2019/20 Women's FA Cup final with City due to tackle Everton in the Wembley showpiece on November 1st.

Meanwhile, Tommy Doyle and Lauren Hemp have been shortlisted for the Rising Star and Women’s Rising Star of the Season prizes respectively.

Midfielder Doyle, the grandson of late, great City legends Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, made his first team debut during the season and went on to figure for the Club in the FA Cup and Premier League too.

The 18-year-old’s excellent progress was further recognised recently when he signed a new long-term contract with the Club.

Hemp meanwhile enjoyed a superb individual campaign and Won the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year award for a second time.

The England international was also named City’s QNET Rising Star in the Club’s End of Season Awards, and earned the MCWFC Official Supporters’ Club’s Player of the Season prize.
