CITC provide free Walking Football sessions

The Club’s Charity, City in the Community (CITC) provides four free walking football sessions per week, aimed at engaging older participants in regular physical activity.

Two sessions are held per week for men and two for women who are interested in participating in Walking Football.

By coming to the sessions, participants can meet others and build social relationships.

Some individuals attend for the social interaction specifically, as this is the only place that they can experience comradery and friendship.

A previous walking football participant, Trefor Phillips said: “The whole experience has been magic. I’m so much fitter now and I’m able to do things that I couldn’t even do twenty years ago.

"My overall health and flexibility have improved so much that if I go out walking with my wife she is always telling me to slow down.”

CITC takes this social interaction further by giving participants the chance to travel and play other Premier League teams that also have walking football sessions.

Men’s Walking Football Sessions run on a Tuesday, 12pm-1pm and on a Friday, 11-12pm at the Manchester Football and Tennis Centre.

Women’s Walking Football Sessions are held on a Tuesday 8-9pm at the CFA Indoor Dome and Friday 11-12pm at the Manchester Football and Tennis Centre.

The charity also aims to bring people of all ages together through the project, by welcoming its volunteers and young leaders to help lead sessions.
