A team of five City Football Schools staff members have returned from India, where they hosted a series of football sessions.

As part of an Etihad Airways and Jet Airways event, Andy Smith (Technical Director of Coaching), Alan Dixon (Project Manager), Jack Lewis (CITC Cohesion Coordinator), Steven Jackson (Junior Academy Coach) and Ashley Frith (Junior Academy Coach) made the trips to Calcutta and Bangalore to work with more than 500 participants aged eight to 18.

The youngsters were from three local schools and a sports academy, with some also selected through the Magic Bus Foundation, which steers children towards an improved life through better awareness, life skills and opportunities ahead of the journey into adulthood. Members of the local media were also invited to take part.

The CFS team spent the first three days in Calcutta before moving on to Bangalore for the final 48 hours. In total 14 sessions were conducted as well as Q&A events in each city attended by guests of both Etihad Airways and Jet Airways.

The Premier League trophy also accompanied the quintet. Participants were able to have a photograph alongside it, ensuring they would have the opportunity to keep a souvenir from the week to treasure.

Lewis agreed: “We have all had a great time working with the Children in India.

“They have been hugely inspiring and enthusiastic.

“Even when the pitch was flooded and there was torrential rain in Calcutta, it did nothing to dampen their spirits – they all just wanted to get on the pitch and showcase their talents.”
