U18s away to Swindon in FA Youth Cup

City’s Under 18’s have drawn an away tie against Swindon Town in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.

Adam Sadler’s Blues face the tricky trip to Wiltshire to take on the Totesport.com Combination League team after beating Corby Town 4-1 in the third round at Ewen Fields.

A hat-trick from promising 17-year-old striker Jordi Hiwula and a goal from midfielder Adam Drury helped City into the draw although the visitors had initially taken the lead with an early goal from the Steelboys’ forward James Harrison.

One member of Sadler’s team who is already familiar with the Robins is Alex Henshall. The exciting young winger moved to City from Swindon in June 2010 after being at the club for eight years. During his time there, then-manager Danny Wilson named Henshall on the bench several times and the 17-year-old earned his first call-up for England during his time at the County Ground.

Another winger who played for Swindon as part of his illustrious career is none other than City’s Club ambassador Mike Summerbee. ‘Buzzer’ began his football days at the Wiltshire club in 1959 at the age of 16. He made over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 38 goals, before making the move to the Blues in 1965.

It was perhaps quite fitting that his son, Nicky, also started his career at the club too, in 1989. The winger scored six times in 112 appearances for the Robins before following in his father’s footsteps and heading to Maine Road to play for City.

The tie at Swindon will be played on 17 January.
