Man City's young Swiss star on a roll!

BATTLER: Gonzalez will be looking to impress against Everton this weekend

BATTLER: Gonzalez will be looking to impress against Everton this weekend

Manchester City U18s striker Lorenzo Gonzalez believes he is part of one of the most promising generations at the club.

Lee Carsley’s group, largely made up of first year scholars, are unbeaten in the U18 Premier League after ten matches and sit top of the table.

Although Gonzalez, who signed from Swiss club Servette in the summer, had to wait for international clearance before making his mark, he has enjoyed every moment with the team.

The 16-year-old said: “When I joined I was told that this is one of the best teams the club has and that’s been a big challenge for me to come in this team and be here.

“When we have players like Jadon, Phil and Ian it’s good for a striker because they will create a lot of chances. They know football and with more matches we can understand each other’s styles even better.

“However, that does mean it’s not so easy to get in to the team and we have to earn our place on the pitch.”

Gonzalez and his teammates welcome Everton this Saturday in another match that the Swiss youth international expects City to dominate.

He said: “We know Everton well. We beat them 3-1 at the start of the season and although I couldn’t play, I watched them closely. They’re not a bad team but with the quality we have on the pitch, we should win if we play to our level.”

The powerful striker’s stand-out performance in a City shirt so far was his man of the match display against Derby County.

Gonzalez scored two goals and was a handful all match. He believes that performance has given him the confidence required to push on.

“That game was very important for me for this season because I had been waiting for my international clearance to come before I could play,” said Gonzalez.

“When I got the chance I felt alright but I needed to score to show to myself and the fans that I was ready. To score two goals in the Derby game and be man of the match gave me the best possible start.”
