Sustainability

At Manchester City, we are driven by a passionate belief that football can have a positive impact on our communities and empower better lives. Some of our sustainability strategies include:

  • Using as much locally-sourced food as possible - over 70% of our produce comes from the local area.
  • We use seasonal produce and support sustainable food growth by using surplus fruit and vegetables.
  • We offer plant-based and low-carbon food options to limit our environmental impact.

Additionally, we have made a conscious effort to ensure our food packaging is as sustainable as possible. We do this by:

  • Ensuring our suppliers meet certain sustainability standards
  • Limiting the use of single-use plastics by implementing paperboard packaging where possible which is inherently renewable and recyclable.

Introducing reusable plastic cups for our draught beer solution has significantly enhanced sustainability by reducing waste and lowering environmental impact. Unlike single-use cups, these reusable alternatives can be cleaned and utilized repeatedly, cutting down on the volume of plastic waste generated. This shift not only minimizes landfill contributions but also reduces the resources and energy expended in the production and disposal of single-use plastics. The durable nature of reusable plastic cups ensures a longer lifespan, promoting a circular economy model. Overall, this initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability, fostering a more eco-friendly approach to serving draught beer, while maintaining our serve quality.

Installing post-mix systems across GA and Hospitality has been a pivotal move in eliminating single-use plastics and enhancing the customer experience. These systems allow beverages to be mixed and dispensed on-site, significantly reducing the need for pre-packaged plastic bottles and cans. This not only decreases plastic waste but also lowers the carbon footprint associated with transporting these items. Furthermore, the post-mix solution offers a fresher and customizable drink experience, allowing fans to enjoy a variety of beverages tailored to their preferences. This enhancement in service quality, combined with the environmental benefits, demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and fan satisfaction.

Introducing carton water has substantially reduced our carbon footprint by offering an innovative, refillable solution for water on match days. This system eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles, curbing plastic waste and the environmental impact associated with their production and disposal. The cartons provide a convenient, on-demand water source, encouraging fans to refill their own bottles and reducing the frequency of restocking and transportation. This not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions but also supports our commitment to sustainability by promoting responsible consumption and waste reduction. As a result, fans benefit from easy access to fresh water while contributing to a greener, more eco-friendly environment.
