Watch the best of the action as City began our 2023/24 Barclays Women’s Super League campaign with a strong 2-0 victory over West Ham.

The meeting at the Chigwell Construction Stadium represented our first competitive outing since May’s 3-2 win over Everton at the Joie Stadium.

And we picked up where we left off as goals from Lauren Hemp and a debut strike from Jill Roord in the capital secured a fine success on the road.

Despite enjoying most of possession in the first half the scoreline remained goalless at the interval with Rehanne Skinner’s side defending valiantly.

However, we were fast out of the blocks when play resumed and scored the game’s first goal when Hemp excellently curled an effort home with her left foot.

Buoyed by breaking the deadlock, we immediately pushed forward and won a penalty, but Chloe Kelly saw her powerful spot-kick impressively saved by Mackenzie Arnold.

Any disappointment was extinguished moments later though when Roord showed her quality when she turned away from her marker, raced into the box and coolly slotted home.

City were reduced to 10-players with 20 minutes remaining when Leila Ouahabi was sent off for her reaction to Emma Harries’ tackle, but we held on for three points.
