In the latest instalment of the historic Manchester derby, Gareth Taylor’s side earned early-season bragging rights in the first Barclays Women’s Super League meeting of 2023/24.
Despite starting strongly, the visitors conceded the game’s first goal when Katie Zelem’s penalty squeezed past Khiara Keating.
The Netherlands ace equalised when coolly slotting into the net from just inside the box before the skilful winger handed City the lead with a sublime, curling effort.
Taylor’s players then carried the momentum gained into the second half when Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw netted her fourth goal of the season when relentlessly closing down Mary Earp’s before blocking the England international's clearance into the net.
Although we were reduced to 10-players with 20 minutes remaining, the Blues held on for a famous victory which saw us leapfrog Manchester United in the WSL table.
