With the spoils being shared at Old Trafford, it means the Blues will finish in fourth this season and will narrowly miss out on a place in the Champions League in 2025/26.
Nick Cushing’s side knew only a win would take the race for Europe to the final day of the campaign and we stormed into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Laia Aleixandri and Rebecca Knaak.
The Spaniard opened the scoring when collecting the ball inside the box, shifting it onto her right foot and coolly curling into the bottom corner.
CUSHING: THE TASK WAS TOO GREAT, BUT I’M PROUD
We then had wind in our sails and doubled our lead through Knaak’s powerful header after she met an accurate Yui Hasegawa corner from the left.
However, the hosts pulled a goal back before the interval through Grace Clinton when she netted a header of her own.
City started the second half brightly but our lead was extinguished when Melvine Malard broke into the box and dispatched past Khiara Keating.
The hosts were then reduced to 10 players when Aoife Mannion received a second yellow card and we pushed for a third, but it just evaded us before full-time.
